Overnight Success is Bullshit!

Overnight Success is Bullshit!

March 13, 2019 Published by admin

Do you ever beat yourself up because you don’t get instant results?

I know I’m often guilty of that and am constantly having to remind myself to achieve success it takes time.

The problem is we live in an age where we expect things to happen quickly or overnight. With modern technology we can order something online and have it the next day, we can watch our favourite TV show on demand at anytime time of day or night, we are being conditioned to think everything happens instantly!

Unfortunately for us, real life doesn’t happen that quickly, things take time!

When a new sports star comes on the scene, the media make out they are an overnight success but, excuse my French, that’s a load of B*****S. No-one is an overnight success! All we get to see as the public is the success that sports star is having now, we don’t see all the tears, the hard work, the set backs along the way, that have helped them become the success they are now. The reality is before they came onto the scene they had been showing up consistently for years when no-one else was and before anyone knew who they were. They made sacrifices to get the results they wanted. That takes courage, commitment and desire!

In the health and fitness industry we are bombarded daily with adverts of a quick fix diet, a magic pill that will help us lose weight immediately, it’s constant and we are led to believe we will get results immediately. It’s absolute nonsense!

Let’s look at it another way. Did you get to where you are with your health and fitness immediately or was it over a period of time?

Talking from my own experience I woke up one day and looked in the mirror and wondered when I’d suddenly become “fat!” I weighed 15 stone and was 2.5 stone overweight! In my mind I was still that 20 year old something who played sport everyday, had an active job and an active lifestyle, it didn’t matter what I ate or drank because I was still fit and healthy! In reality I had been making bad choices, not all bad choices but enough over a period of time. I was no longer as active as I used to be, I was no longer playing team sports, my role in my business had changed and I was inside behind a desk more than I was out being active, yet I was still eating and drinking as if I was still playing sport and still active. Overtime this caught up with me and there I was looking in the mirror 2.5 stone overweight. The weight gain wasn’t instant or overnight, it was gradual and unnoticeable until it got to a point where I could no longer ignore it.

I knew I had to make a change and knew it wouldn’t be easy or happen overnight. (I was helped by a book I’d read called the compound effect by Darren Hardy. I recommend reading it) I would have to be consistent and show up daily overtime to get the results.

When I started to work out I would weigh myself everyday expecting to see the scales move but there was nothing! Then one day during the first week the scales went up! I thought wtf, how can that be happening and started going into my conditioning of thinking I should be getting results instantly! But then I reminded myself, I didn’t get fat overnight, so I’m not going to lose it overnight, stick to the programme, listen to the experts and you’ll get there. I have to keep showing up, I have to keep taking quality* actions. During the first couple of weeks of my new regime my weight would fluctuate, I’d lose couple of lbs, I’d gain a couple of pounds. I couldn’t work out what was going on but I decided to remain consistent, because consistency gets results! After about 4 weeks it all changed, I suddenly lost 7lbs in weight! Yes, it was working! So I carried on following the programme encouraged by the results. After 2 months of showing up every day I lost just under 2 stone in weight, with most of that weight loss coming in the last 2 weeks of the programme, the compound effect in full swing! Again it wasn’t instant, it was gradual due to hard work and consistency.

So why am I sharing this with you?

I want you to know you can get the results you desire for your health and fitness but it’s not going to happen overnight.

Firstly, you have to make a decision that you want to lose weight or gain muscle. You then have to find a workout programme you can follow consistently that is in line with your goals and a nutrition plan that compliments the kind of exercise you are doing. You then need to start turning up everyday, putting in the effort, commitment and desire even on days when you don’t feel like it, because if you are not consistent you won’t get the results. You won’t achieve your goal overnight, no matter what the latest diet craze is saying! Then surround yourself with people who are going to support and encourage you every day to stay the distance!

If you want that extra support or need help choosing the right workout programme to achieve your goals why not join us for 21 Days of Clean week and start the process. Your friends and family will think you have suddenly lost weight overnight but you’ll know that it took time and you had to put in a lot of effort to get the results. Clean week is just the start! But lets go!

*Taking action is good and can get results, but only if you are taking the right actions. I used to go to the gym everyday but I had no idea what exercises to do, so I’d run on the treadmill for 20 mins lift a couple of weights and think that was enough. I was consistent at turning up but I was taking the wrong actions. It was only when I followed a programme designed to lose weight and build muscle consistently that I got results.
