Looking at life differently

Sometimes you need to look at life from a different perspective.

I find nowadays if you have an opinion on something and someone has a different opinion that makes them right and you wrong. But really the truth is somewhere in the middle.

If we all felt the same, thought the same life would get pretty boring!

I always try and look at things from both points of view before making any kind of assumption or decision. You can learn a lot from thinking a different way.

It’s another reason I love to read business books and personal development it gives you different ways to look at things. I remember I had some staff at one point who were really lazy and I was getting frustrated with them and I was reading a book on management on how to manage them better.

I don’t remember which book it was that I read the quote but it’s always stuck with me, “if you want something done efficiently, give it to a lazy person to do”

When I read it, I thought that’s stupid but then I remembered when I was travelling around Australia, I was working in a factory and doing a really mundane job, I was bored out of my skull, and I was being lazy and I wanted an easy ride, so I looked for the quickest way to get the job done, so I could knock off early and go back to being lazy. The problem for me with that was we were finishing the job the manager was giving us 2hrs early, so as a 19yr old I started to muck around and ended up getting fired for being disruptive. If I’d been the manager I wouldn’t have fired me, I would of given me more tasks to do, to make them more efficient, why because lazy people look for ways to get things done quicker!

When I remembered that it changed how I dealt with my staff that were being lazy.

A lazy person always wants an easy life, so they look for a quick and easy way to do something, often making things more efficient in the process.

It’s good to have different thinking because you come up with different solutions. It’s why brainstorming in groups is always more productive than trying to figure out things alone. People come at it from different perspectives and ideas bounce off each other until you come up with a solution.

So next time someone has a different opinion to you or thinks differently, look for what you can learn from their different point of view. Just because it’s a different point of view doesn’t make it wrong or right.
